Off for a while
I’ll be off this weekend selling my bonnets at Ft. Fred Market Fair, so I’ll be quiet for a couple of days. However, I have queued up my fashion plate blog, Dames a la Mode, so there will be posts over there (including some pretty fabulous hats and bonnets…)
oldbookillustrations asked: Hi there,
The book from which the milliners picture was taken was actually written and illustrated in 1888 (to the best of my knowledge), but it's a book telling about the history of the XIX century, as seen through the eyes of various characters. This picture illustrates a story told by a young woman who was working as a milliner, in 1824. So I guess you're right on :)

Jane Eyre
I was lucky enough to see Jane Eyre this weekend (amazingly it came to my medium-sized town here in Virginia) and it is amazing. The acting is heartrending, the locations are stunning, and the bonnets were so distracting that I barely knew what was going on! Thank goodness I know the story! If you want to see some incredible examples of middle- and working-class bonnets (particularly straw!)...

Hey! Remember that awesome bonnet I got on Ebay a bit ago? Well, I got it and it is amazing. I still have no idea if it is *really* a Regency bonnet, but it sure looks like it to me. And even if it isn’t, it is still gorgeous and incredible. I put pictures up on my facebook page and set it as a public album, just in case you wanted to take a look.
