This is very, very cool. It is so rare to see depictions of Africans, slaves, or practially any minority in art from this period. I think their hairstyles and headdresses are magnificent!

Almost every other plate from the 1830 edition of Lady’s Magazine is colored, and this is one of the few that isn’t. I’m slightly miffed that it is black and white, but mostly it just make me want to print out 50 copies and make a coloring book!
