This is a fabulous portrait, particularly because of her slashed sleeves and because of the striking colors (you don’t see a lot of black dresses in the 18th century!) but also because of that giant, be-feathered hat! Love!
Gone with the Wind was released in 1939 and immediately started a trend for huge summer hats like Scarlett’s iconic straw one. This great striped capeline was made the following year.
